For reasons that are not clear to me, I have developed an addiction to lists of books. Whether I will ever read all the books on the different lists before I die or go senile is debatable but, hey. I reckon that even if I'm not successful, I should end up more 'well-read' and maybe better able to mix in polite society. :)

The Man-Booker Prize Winners

This was the list that started it all. It wasn't my fault, though. I got the idea from another BookCrosser, honest!
-- Current number read = 6/39

The Observer 100 Greatest Novels

This was the second list. Before I saw it mentioned on a book cover, I had no idea that there was such a thing. Once I looked at it, I was hooked - it's a list that contains many classic books that I've always been meaning to get around to.
-- Current number read = 25/100

The Time 100 Best English-language Novels since 1923

This was the third list, which was assembled by the American magazine Time in 2005. I'm not sure why they chose 1923 to be the start date. There are a lot of books/authors on this list which I haven't heard of before, so I'm hoping for some interesting new reads.
-- Current number read = 25/100

The Random House 100 Best English-language Novels of the 20th Century

This list was selected by The Board of the Modern Library, a division of the US publishers Random House in 1998.
-- Current number read = 19/100

1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die

I found out about this list from another BookCrosser which comes from the book of the same name. Sigh.
-- Current number read = 135/1001

David Pringle's 100 Best SF Novels

A list based on a 1984 book. It's a personal selection by David Pringle and undoubtedly a bit dated by now. I guess the Hugo and Nebula award winners would give a broader a more up to date coverage...
-- Current number read = 75/100

Hugo 'Best Novel' Winners

A list of the international Hugo Gernsback awards in the 'Best Novel' category from 1945 onwards, as voted on by fans.
-- Current number read = 41/56

Nebula 'Best Novel' Winners

A list of the Nebula awards in the 'Best Novel' category from 1965 onwards.
