April 12 is the anniversary of Yuri Gagarin's flight into space in 1961.Each year space enthusiasts around the world celebrate this in a variety of ways, facilitated by Yuri's Night central in LA and in years gone by I've initiated/co-organised some YN clubnights in London and attended some others.
For 2006 my plan is to combine vodka, Yuri's Night and BookCrossing into an easy-to-organise-and-fun event and go on a book releasing spree in and around London (I have quite a lot of SF books to get rid of), while touring a few Russian and Polish vodka bars.
Anyone who wants to play along is more than welcome, either to release books, or just for the fun of it! Each of the first ten players will receive a free Yuri's Night Badge. Woohoo, etc :)
For my BookCrossing bretheren, I'm not planning to set up anything as complex as the World Space Week mass release that I ran last October but here are some Yuri's Night BookCrossing labels (MS-Word file, Avery J8166 format, 6 to a page) which can be used by anyone who fancies a spot of themed releasing on April 12, even if they don't want to join in the London event.

- 17 March 2006 - This event is officially registered as Yuri's Night Party number 42. That has to be a good omen!
- 16 March 2006 - Bookcrossers Betty22 and JemimaJ have 'signed up' to play as well. "Houston, we have a party!" (yes, I know that should probably be 'Moscow' rather than 'Houston'...)
